Yukata Table Runner

I have finally finished this latest Yukata cloth table runner. (This striped Yukata cloth is a type of Japanese fabric that is traditionally used to make men's kimonos. You can see other ones that I have made here and here.)

Despite the fact that it is entirely hand quilted with approximately 7000 stitches, (no, I didn't count them all... I do have a life! I just counted one row and multiplied it by the number of other rows.) ...I am still not sure why it took me soooo long to complete. (I've done more extensive hand quilting on other pieces that seemed to take me a fraction of the time.)

With this one, I felt like no matter how much I stitched on it, there were always lots more rows to go. It began to remind me of some nightmare where the hall you are walking down just keeps getting longer and longer, with no end in sight.

Because it was such a bugaboo, I've decided to keep this one for myself. :0)

P.S. That old scale with it's original weights, was just given to me the other week by my aunt. It had belonged to my Greek immigrant great-grandparents who used it to measure out candy in their confectionary shop in Baltimore, Maryland. Pretty cool, huh?!

I tip my hat. One row alone would've done me in. You are a dedicated lady.

I see Ms. Mo! Your new piece looks perfectly at home.

Ah so beautiful - it looks perfect right where it is! Funny, I'm hand-quilting a quilt right now that's giving me the exact same sensation, lol. Beautiful work, Victoria!

7000 stitches? Far out! It's lovely, and I was intrigued by the scale and weights in the photos. What a score! If you ever wish to part with it let me know :)

I'm so glad you kept this one. It is beautiful. I do believe it's my favorite of the set, but that is hard to say because they are all wonderful. I love the scale and the story behind it. The shot of the weights is perfect.

I love handwork, but after a few hundred stitches I need a long break! This would take me SO long to make. I love the way it turned out, and it compliments your "new" scale beautifully!

A lot of love went into that one - just gorgeous. You're right to keep it to yourself.

It's beautiful and I can't imagine how patient you must be! I also want to thank you again for your pojagi tutorial, it is the most clear description on the web. I'm starting a new series using pojagi. It can be so confusing at first, especially when it's all measured!

Congratulations on a wonderful finish! 7,000 stitches definitely would take a lot of patience. The scale is awesome too.

Oh beautiful pieces......love the scarf and what a fabulous idea for the use of this technique.
As always your work inspires me ....love the table runner and it looks just perfect there with a little piece of your family history displayed on top.
Where did you find the lovely stripped Japanese fabric?
And may I ask what is the weight of the thread you are using to hand quilting with across your work quilt?

Happy Sewing!

Try ikat fabric for making the table runner, it is really great option for decoration either it is wall decoration or furniture decoration. It goes very well with everything.
